"A modern day witch likes her neighbour but despises his fiancee, so she puts a spell on him to make him fall in love with her. Complications arise after she discovers that she is falling for him for real. BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE is a beloved romantic comedy that famously features the winning team-up of KIM NOVAK and JAMES STEWART in a more delighfully comedic light. Their chemistry is able to overcome the more superficial examinations and flaws of the screenplay in revealing a more genuine emotive side to its story.

Despite this, it very much feels like a KIM NOVAK vehicle, because of her radiance and sex appeal, which are cleverly used through meticulous camerawork that flatter her excellent fit in the role of the temptress. But it is also because of her surprisingly remarkable timing that reveals her as a great comedienne.

This charming comedy is enhanced by its stylish outlook, and impressive art direction. This especially shows in the witch's house, full of strange props and curious items, but also in the bohemian and exotic underground night club, a major meeting point for the "sorocery" community of New York City, which still feels trendy to this day and also presents a showcase for some excellent expressionist lighting."
