"Athens, flustered by the economic, political and cultural crisis of recent times, provides the perfect setting for neo-noir. In this film, ALEXIS ALEXIOU aims to represent it also through the storyline, that follows the 30 odd hours in which a jazz club owner aims to pay off his debt to a loan shark with the debt of another club owner to the same man.

From the story itself, one can already see a clear satirical allegory. Nevertheless, this aspect of the film is well balanced within the narrative intensity of the film, that moves at a controlled pace and even allows for some introspective reflections on its themes and on the concept of morality. This is particularly shown via its leading character and his moral conflicts, passionate to the point of obsessive in his self professed mission of promoting the jazz culture in a setting already confused by its many cultural influxes.

The cinematography of WEDNESDAY 04:45 is also impressive, and treasures its urban setting as well as its enveloping darkness broken up by the glow of electric and neon lights."
