"Undoubtedly Woody Allen’s most unique work, his mockumentary about a human chameleon during the start of the 20th century is an intellectual man’s delight.

It was made with groundbreaking techniques, with footage that looks genuinely from the 20s and 30s and sometimes with the cast included in original footage of the time, that looks simply stunning. The film was also one of the first mockumentaries to have been produced.

As well as all that, Woody Allen achieves a stylistic success while retaining his intellect within his work by illustrating a message of race assimilation (perhaps more specifically Semitic assimilation within American culture) as an inevitable step towards the future and at the same time leading towards another idea of extremism."
