"CLUELESS is a high school comedy with racy humour and a vivid style that can be traced back to the late nineties MTV generation - as also shown by its use of music. On paper, it should be obnoxious, but surprisingly, it is quite remarkably not, and very entertaining as well as even influential.

Its story revolves around a rich and popular high school girl, who takes it upon herself to boost a new and seemingly lost cause pupil's popularity. Undertaking this mission for selfish reasons, she finds the situation gets out of hand, and leads her to an awakening of sorts, exposing her to unforseen vulnerabilities.

The best part of CLUELESS is that in spite of being made up of a cast of stereotypical characters, especially the teen queen one, it seems all involved are in on the game. The leading character, whose name is Cher, is not a victim, therefore offering a different satirical take and viewpoint from the typical vast majority of high school flicks in general. Topped off with some memorable one liners, and a more candid than average approach towards the exposition of the high school microcosm to refrain the film from seeming too over the top.

Considering the film was directed by AMY HECKERLING, who had previously helmed the equally impressive FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMOND HIGH, one should not impressed to find that CLUELESS is entertaining, campy, witty and just the right amount of catty. Perhaps it is the ambition that truly differentiates it. While the film was primarily aimed at high school students, it is not solely restricted to it, therefore more rewarding than other similars."
