BLOODY MAMA (1970) - ♦♦

Directed by - Roger Corman

Written by - Don Peters, Robert Thom

Starring - Shelley Winters, Pat Hingle, Don Stroud, Diane Varsi

"Bloody Mama is the story of "Ma" Barker, a powerful and dangerous outlaw in the thirties in the States, and her family. Corman’s movie is a cheap feast of violence, sex, drugs and crime that probably sought to fit in the more mainstream films of the kind that were released at the same time.

The film is almost unwatchable sleaze, tastelessly tip toeing around Freudian themes and forgetting to establish any genuine type of emotional connection in the process. It is only notable for odd elements, including an early De Niro performance as a junkie, one of Shelley Winter's titular character sons."
