"PAUL HOUGH's documentary THE BACKYARD follows the dangerous and controversial world of backyard wrestling, made up of self destructive dreams of fame and fortune. 

Despite the subject, the filmmaker seems to remain quite distant from making a statement, and chooses to use a non judgemental approach to even the most insane behaviours by its subjects - who are clearly a little mad but also unquestionably determined and passionate. 

THE BACKYARD also gets over as a novelty look at obsessive passions and the viciousness of the practive of backyard wrestling. But the interest level widely depends on the interest level provoked by the subjects themselves, and only some of them are truly worthy of such attention."
