ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981) - ♦♦♦♦

Directed by - John Carpenter

Written by - John Carpenter, Nick Castle

Starring - Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, Harry Dean Stanton, Arienne Barbeau

"Kurt Russell is Snake, a war hero turned felon in charge of finding the president of the US, who has been kidnapped and brought into the post apocalyptic island of Manhattan, which has been turned into a maximum security prison, with a time limit upon which his life depends. One of the most iconic films of Carpenter’s illustrious filmography, also thanks to the gritty and mean iconic central character played in a memorably charismatic way by Kurt Russell. The visuals and effects give the film a distinctive look, and the story borrows the extravagance of B-movies. Escape from New York also has a feel for being rebellious and conveying of the punk style that was popular at the time of its release, thus it is an interesting product of its time without being tastelessly commercial."
