"The illegitimate son of an Italian businessman is taken in by a group of British women residing in Italy, and grows up with them. When Mussolini’s Italy enters conflict, the women become prisoners of war. The interesting premise is actually drawn from the autobiographical story of the director’s youth. However, the film is typically flawed and formulaic. It matters little hence that its cast of big names is impressive, and in fact makes the film feel more like a disappointment and a missed opportunity."
