"A man travels from Canada to France to meet the family of his dead boyfriend and attend his funeral. Once there, he notices that the family lives in almost complete isolation and meets his lover’s brother, who psychologically bullies him to the point of kidnapping for the sake of keeping his mother happy. A slight change of cinematic approach for Dolan, who shifts way from his recognisable filmmaking style to make a bizarre black comedy drama with a Hitchcockian about the darker and masochistic side of attachment. The cinematography is quite well structured and still, giving the film an admirable element of claustrophobia, while the characters are interestingly bizarre. Occasionally, the film lacks a little momentum and suffers from dead moments but kept alive by the interesting and strange psychological undertones which define the bone structure of the rhythm and purpose of the film."
